In the first world war, the big powers were divided into two rival alliances, Now democracies between democracies and dictatorship
Democracy:
- Everybody (above the age of 18) can vote.
- Voters have choices between several political parties.
- Everybody must obey the law of land
- Freedom belong to trade unions
- a government is limited in time of power
Dictators:
a ruler who assumes sole and absolute power with military control, but without hereditary descendants such as an absolute monarchs.
They are also authoritarian, and his rule is not subject to popular volte or legislative override

- Joseph Stalin (Georgia/Russia/Soviet Union)
- Adolf Hitler (Germany)
Fascism: A political movement that promotes
- Extreme Nationalism
- Imperialism
- dictatorial government
- One party system
- denial of individual rights
Mussolini:
- took advantage of the unrest in italy by gathering a following of war veterans and those unhappy with the conditions.
Results:
Many enemies of the state were killed.
The goals of the state were put above the rights of the individual.
Dictators expanding territories:

germany in the 1930s:
-kaiser wilhelm was abdicated and fled to holland creating a vacuum.
-it was crushed by the TOV
-weimar republic, new and unstable
-rampant poverty, reduction of GNP
-Great depression
-failed harvest
-france seized more territory when german failed to make payments

Life in Nazi germany:
- He made the Reichstag give him the power to pass laws without consulting it
- all opposition parties and trade unions were banned
- Nazis took over control of the press and radio, and they controlled what was taught in schools
- Jews were persecuted
Nazism and communism:
-they are the most vilified political philosophies in the modern era
- they both fixate on hierarchies
-Both needed a strong, centralized government to operate
The differences:
communism:
- a socio economic ideology that aims at a classes and stateless society
-famous communist :Karl max
- stands for free society where all are equal and everyone participate in the desicion making proce
Nazism:
-famous nazi: Adolf Hitler
- A totalitarian ideology that was practised by the Nazi Party
- Stands for socialist policies but also ensures that a wealthy class stays at the helm of power
Behaviour towards the Communist:
- The Gestapo (secret police) was used to round up communist, and imprison them in concentration ………
Behaviour towards Jews:
- Hitler wanted to have a nation where no other ethnic group are allowed to be citizens of Germany
- Assassinated the Jews
-Hitler did not mind the jews having their own country
- Between 1941 to 1945, six million Jews were murdered
Why does Hitler target the Jews:
- Hitler had a crush on a jewish girl, and her father forbid their relationship. But hitler passion for antisemitism was something more than just his upbringing. There is a little indication in his connection or his friend’s and relatives memories that he strongly believed in a Jewish plot to destroy Germany until 1919
